Measuring wheel-based length measurement is inexpensive! Really?
If the materials to be measured are neither particularly ductile nor soft and vary only slightly in thickness and structure, the use of measuring wheel-based length measuring systems is a good option.
However, this only applies to materials in their ideal state. In practice, there are deviations, faults, unevenness and things that lead to soiling or wear.
This is where a measuring wheel reaches its limits.
In the case of the submarine cables shown, the running metre costs up to €1,000. The pictures (which were taken after only a few hours of operation) give an idea of the fact that accurate measurements are not possible with measuring wheels.
